1942 Invoice
This invoice was in a copy of Cecil Lawson’s ‘A History of The Uniforms of the British Army’ vol1.
I’ve removed the personnel details from this invoice as there may still be descendent living there.
The total price of thirteen shillings would be more than most factory workers earned for a nine hour shift.
Taking today’s rate of pay {UK minimum}, it would make the cost of this book approximately sixty pounds.
[Author’s Note;
In the production of this book the question of cost has had to be continually considered; for this reason coloured illustrations have been kept down to a minimum.]
Just goes to show that we don’t really appreciate how some items have become more affordable.
How long will they remain so?
