Egyptian Army Uniforms (end of the Kingdom, beginning of the Republic)
Hello everyone! This is my first post Here are some screenshots from the epic movie "Rodda Qalbi" (return my heart), an Egyptian movie after the July Revolution 1952 (the plot is basically an inter-class love story, with a heavy dose of propoganda). The main characters are army officers, so here are some screen shots w/ uniforms. Enjoy.

Infantry again, the soldier on the right side is an NCO, he has red chevrons on the other arm (couldn't pause the video in time lol)

Senior Officers (from left to right; Colonel, Major General, Lt. Colonel)

Two Military Academy Cadets on the right (the diff. color shoulder cords are for different branches of service, as far as I know)

Red stripe on cadet trousers. (This is our hero. Lt. Ali, embracing his father, the lowly groundskeeper on the estate of Princess Enji, his forbidden love)

Summer uniforms

Garrison cap instead of fez. I'm not sure what that arm band is for, in this scene the officer is being told that Lt. Ali is being transferred to another unit as punishment, so maybe this officer with the arm band is a military judge?

Berets. The officer in the middle is Artillery

Note the shoulder chains, service badge on lapels, and cap badge (A crowned Green roundel with the crescent and three stars in gold)

Sweater. Note the new republican cap badge.

Republican coat of arms, depicted on the new cap badge. (Interesting story: my grandfather was a Col. in the Ordnance dept. and after the July revolution, his crowned lapel badges had a little disc with the crescent and three stars soldered on top of the crown. On the reverse you can see the outline of it)

Riding breeches (mounted review)
And that's it! Hope you enjoyed the pictures and increased your uniform knowledge

Re: Egyptian Army Uniforms (end of the Kingdom, beginning of the Republic)
Wouldn't the Egyptians have still used the British helmet in 1948?

From a military parade in 1956.
Was this a specialist mountain unit?
Or are they Lebanese?

I don't think Egypt gets much snow, so I doubt they'd wear white camoflage.

Re: Egyptian Army Uniforms (end of the Kingdom, beginning of the Republic)
Under the French Mandate (1920-46) the "Special Troops of the Levant" included Lebanese mountain units modeled on the Chasseurs Alpins. The Lebanese troops wore the floppy berets of the latter and white snow clothing as appropriate. I think the photograph probably shows this unit parading after independence (no kepis in the background).
