Egyptian late 1800s?

I believe they are Egyptian troops of the late 1800s.
Any help?

Hi Sean - yes they are Egyptian military types of 1883. To be exact the ill-fated 8,000 strong force under the British officer William Hicks which was wiped out at the battle of El Obeid (or Al Ubayyid or Kashgate according to different sources). They included gendarmerie (who wore light blue uniforms of zouave style), regular infantry & cavalry (who wore white cotton uniforms and red fezs, sometimes with turbans wrapped around them), irregulars who wore tribal dress and some bashi-bazouks (who improbably had retained vaguely medieval helmets and chain mail). So the French illustration provides a reasonably full coverage. Hicks and his European officers were photographed in fezs and white tunics.
