REGULATIONS FOR UNDRESS UNIFORM FOR MOUNTED RIFLES AND RIFLE CORPS
Mounted Rifles
Officers
Patrol Jacket - Karkee-coloured cloth of the authorised shade, 28in long, from bottom of collar behind, for an officer 5ft 9in in height, with a proportionate variation for any difference in height; a spine-protector or pleat of the same material as garment to extend from centre of collar to bottom of jacket, 3in wide at bottom till within 3in of collar, from where it gradually widens to 4in at collar; skirts rounded in front; collar and cuffs to be of maroon velvet, the point of cuff to reach 5in from bottom of same, to be trimmed with broad gold Russian tracing-braid, finishing at top of cuff with an Austrian knot, top of knot from bottom of cuff to be 7in. Collar: Height to be in proportion to the length of neck of wearer, but in no case to exceed 2in; it is to be rounded in front, fastened with hook and eye, and have a tab of patent-leather attached; the collar will be trimmed at bottom and top with small gold tracing-braid, with eye in centre of collar at top. Jacket to have five gilt buttons in front, and one for each shoulder-strap; straps will be of same material as jacket, and trimmed with small gold tracing-braid; initial letters of corps and badge of rank on straps; two strong hooks at waist to support sword-belt; one pocket inside left breast.
Pantaloons - Of Bedford cord of the same shade as jacket; they are to have plenty of room in the under side of leg from hip to just below the knee, and tight from there to ankle, where they are fastened with pieces of strong tape; they are to have two side pockets.
Head-dress - Soft-felt hat, as near the colour of jacket as possible, of the pattern worn by the Victorian Mounted Infantry; puggaree the colour of the facings; right side of brim looped up with gilt hook.
Gauntlets or Gloves - Brown leather.
Boots - Ankle.
Spurs - Short hunting.
Leggings - Victorian pattern, brown leather.
As soon as the present belts are worn out, brown-leather belts, mounted-rifles pattern, will be introduced.
Non-commissioned Officers and Privates
Patrol Jacket - The same as for officers, but the facings will be of maroon cloth, and the tracing-braid will be yellow worsted, except the company sergeant-major, whose jacket will be trimmed with gold braid; the chevrons for all ranks will be 3/4in lace worsted, of the same colour as the uniform, made up on maroon cloth; all chevrons to be worn on the right arm above the elbow.
Pantaloons - As for officers.
Head-dress - As for officers.
Boots - As for officers.
Leggings - As for officers.
Spurs - As for officers.
Rifle Corps
Officers

There will be five plated buttons in front, and one for each shoulder-strap; straps will be of same material as jacket, and trimmed with silver braid; initial letters of corps and badge of rank on straps. There will be two outside breast-pockets cut on the diagonal, to be trimmed with silver lace with turned eyes.
Trousers - Of karkee-coloued cloth of the authorised shade, with 1/4in bead down side seams, of maroon cloth, one side pocket in right side.
Cap - As at present worn.
Non-commissioned Officers and Privates
Patrol Jacket - The same as for officers, except that the facings will be cloth, and the tracing-braid will be white worsted, except the colour-sergeants, whose jacket will be trimmed with silver braid. Non-commissioned officers' chevrons will be of 3/4in lace worsted, of the same colour as the uniform, made up on maroon cloth; openings at sides of jacket to be as regards length in proportion to height of wearer, but in no case to exceed 9in..
Trousers - As for officers.
Cap - Glengarry, with white-metal ornament.
