Bueno also provided illustrations for cards, cutouts and magazines. I hope that we can collect as many of these on this thread, because they are hard to find.

Over the years I have managed to acquire most of Bueno's published works, starting with the series of cards showing the various units participating in Franco's victory parade of 1939. However two of his books that escaped me were those dealing with the "Tropas Nomades" (indigenous camel troops based in the Spanish Sahara) and the one in the "Alfonso XIII 1908-31" series covering the dragoon regiments. They are of course long out of print but anyone who could steer me to a website or other source with material from either of these books would win my undying gratitude (for an hour or so anyway).

Any chance of posting the postcards of troops from the victory parade?
I have not seen those.
Unfortunately I don't have the books you noted, although the http://miniaturasmilitaresalfonscanovas.blogspot.com
website has some copies of the AMME Boletin which I think has some of Bueno's work on the saharan troops.

Thanks for this Sean.

I will post some of the victory parade figures as soon as I have finished unpacking (have just moved to the country as they say), The 20 odd cards are big though with a large number of separate figures on each (this is a cabo of Moorish regulares, this is a sergeant of Moorish regulares etc etc). May have to settle for a selection.

José María Bueno Carrera SpainRegulares1939 As promised above, an example of one of Jose M. Bueno's early works - a large series of plates covering (apparently) all of the units that took part in Franco's victory parade in Madrid in 1939. The plates include Spanish regulars of all branches, colonial troops, various political militias, police, navy, marines, Italians and Germans. The example shown above is a "tabor de Caballeria de Regulares de Melilla" (Moorish cavalry from Spanish Morocco). If anyone is particularly interested in one or another of these categories I will post the appropriate plates on this thread.

José María Bueno Carrera Scan0001-3
At the request of fellow member Abadu, who is researching the Spanish Army of Africa, attached is a Bueno print of a sub-lieutenant and a sergeant of the 1st Battalion of the Cazadores de Africa. Both are in the gala dress of 1848-49. There were two battalions of "African Hunters" (i.e. light infantry) both raised in 1848 from Spanish volunteers to garrison the enclave towns of Cueta and Melilla. The Spanish do not appear to have recruited local Moroccan troops in any numbers (other than scouts, some police and one or two short-lived units) until the famous Regulares were established in 1911.

Amazing! Does the book mention the color of the facings of the 2nd Battalion?

Apparently both wore the regulation uniforms for cazadore regiments of the Peninsular Army - that is line infantry dress with red facings but with green fringed epaulettes, shako tops, plumes and sword tassels to denote their status as light infantry. Bueno does not describe their service dress, except to mention the substitution of green "pompones" for plumes on the shako. However it seems likely that some sort of fatigue or undress uniform would be substituted for tight coatees and heavy shakos in the climate of North Africa.

Even with a prodigious output, his sure hand never fails him. He is the artist for several hundred drawings in Zweguintzow's multivolume condensation of Viskovatov on the imperial Russian army.

Here is a plate from the Company of Military Historians:
(I like the lieutenant-colonel's natty hat, but carrying both a walking stick and a sword seems a bit much.)
