Tonga Defence Force WW2
Hello,
does anyone know what uniforms were worn by the Tonga Defence Force in WW2?
It was formed in 1939 (Wikipedia),and i believe was strongly influenced by New Zealand, so i would assume NZ uniforms,
1939- NZ uniform , WW1 service dress jacket ,short puttees, slouch hat, 1908 webbing?
Not too sure if they had a light weight kd version of the uniform, if so, used in Tonga?
Pat.

The Tongans did use khaki drill in shirts, shorts and native kilts. They also had a supply of 1908 pattern webbing and used standard British small arms. Officers had a peaked cap and Sam Browne belt. Don't think they used putties or boots much. Service dress may have been used by some officers but not the junior ranks.

Interesting information Sean, do you know if the Tongan troops wore sidecaps or were issued with helmets?

In Uniforms Of The World's Police; With Brief Data On Organization, Systems, And Weapons.(Charles C. Thomas, 1968) by James Cramer, there's a photo of a Tongan policeman wearing the skirt with an Australian style slouch hat, so I would imagine that the Defense Force wore a similar headgear.
