Tunic of 47th New York, c. 1897
From the big on-line auction site.
The 47th Regiment, NYNG, was in Brooklyn in the years before World War I, along with the 14th and 23rd Regiments. Anthony Gero's New York State National Guard in Arcadia Publishers' Images of America series shows a few photographs of the 47th from the late nineteenth century, in which uniforms are standard dark blue without braid. Some New York regiments had several uniforms including a unique regimental dress and a more standard dark-blue for ordinary wear. Or perhaps this particular tunic belonged to a band member.

Tunic 47th
Nice example,
Without the close-up the tunic looks grey, which nicely shows how easy it is to be fooled by light.
