Re: Formation badges
Dear Wilfrad,
How are you? your work and affords are excellent in a word. I have a query. In first page of Indian Formation, there is a badge- a person wearing hat encircled by red border under green background. Which unit used this formation sign? It is Indian Northern Command?
Regards
Shams

Wellington Silhouette Badge
Hi Shams
The first badge of the 33rd Indian Corps [H Cole, Formation Badges of WW2] was the Black Silhouette of the Duke of Wellington on a green background within a red circle.
Apparently this badge was chosen by Lt. General Christison who at the time was the Corps Commander.
Wellington was chosen because the Corps was located in the much of the area where the Duke fought while in India between 1800 to 1805.
This and further information is alongside the badge of the 34th Indian Corps on the next image, if you are unable to read the text on any of the pages let me know.
Regards
WF

Another two pages,
Some of the patches vary considerably, for example there are examples to the 23rd Division that look like the Road Runner while others look more like a Christmas turkey.

Yet again I afraid a guess work as I was unable to find any further examples of some of these badges,
For example, for the 60th Infantry Bde pennant's I used Skinners's Horse as a guide.

Re: Formation badges
Dear Wilf,
Take my regards. Your work is excellent. Can you inform me which software do you use to color the figures or badges? Your coloring is absolutely perfect.

Re: Formation badges
Hi Shams
I wouldn't call it perfect but thanks,
The software is Serif PhotoPlusX2 and DrawPlusX4. The last version of PhotoPlusx2 I've found that the drawing tools are quite hard to control, then again it's not a drawing program so I tend to use DrawPlusX4 for any line work.
Older versions of the Serif line could be downloaded free from the Serif web page and they used to work without the need for registration, maybe worth a look at the Serif home page and see what's on offer.
Here's another two pages, again with a few liberties taken where I'm not quite sure of the correct design.
Regards
WF

Again a little guess work regarding some of the illustrations where there's being no real reference.
Some of the descriptions in the book tend to differ from any badges that I can find to cross reference, which isn't surprising when you see the number of variations genuine or repro that's knocking about.

Some of the badge descriptions are a little brief, leaving out various line details and so on. I've tried to find examples to compare but unfortunately that has not always being possible. Once again I have also tried to add an alternative to the illustration in the book where there are a number of variations of design.
When I have to admit defeat, I'll just use whatever colour that I thought would be appropriate.
For any hardline perfectionists this may be unforgivable but what you see is what you've got.

Pages 118 & 119.
Kohat & United Provinces may be wrong, I'm unable to find any further details regarding them.
The others are more or less correct given the number of variations.
