It looks like a black & white photo that's been coloured by the printer.
Looks pre 50's, how old is it ?

The rifle is the long Magazine Lee Enfield, so you'd have to say somewhere between 1895 and 1905, or there abouts.
It is a colourised photograph, as were most of the military postcards of the day.
