Panama National Police 1913
Hi Guys,
Found this old photo while having a surf on the internet.
It apparently shows the Panama National Police in 1913, I cannot clarify this in any way.

The 'keystone cop' style uniforms would suggest some influence from the USA. The three policemen on the left seem to have diffrent hat badges than the others, so maybe of some rank. They all carry US style 'nighsticks' or batons.
Any comments?
REgards,
Les

Very interesting picture. It appears to me that the man in the white pants in the front is the station commander (whatever the rank may be). The different helmet badges is interesting and im curious as to the difference between those 3 and the rest of the group.

another postcard
Hi Sean,
Found this other postcard which seems to be an original version of the colourised one.

The caption for this one is 'Funeral of President Amador 1909. it came from an historical website about Panama and the year is correct for the event.
This would seem a reasonable explanation of the way the Policemen are dressed with White trousers, smart collars and white gloves.
Regards,
Les

And another postcard
This one seems to be the same event but a larger view. Colourised again this time.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Of note this time is the caption as if it is any everyday street scene, that would certainly be an over policed area or maybe their version of 'Zero Tolerance' policy.
It is quite clearly taken at the same time as the other two postcards. This is listed as being from 1900 in an Ebay sellers shop.
The two men in the centre appear to be dignitaries which would follow the State Funeral suggestion.

Les
