The Osprey Elite book "Redcaps Britain's Military Police" contains a written section and a colour plate on this corps, known as the Mounted Staff Corps.
There were 50 of them, drawn from the Royal Irish Constabulary and the London Met. They were based at Balaclava and initially wore "fanciful helmet, red tunic braided with black cord". Losses amongst men, horses and fanciful helmets were heavy and after a few months they were disbanded.
