Pags in the Canadian Army
...I have a drummer of the PPCLI, circa 1938, wearing a French gray pag on his helmet. I also understrand that in 1914 the Royal Canadian Regiment went to a red pag for their white helmet. Can anyone give me dates when the PPCLI started wearing French gray pags? I suppose it was in the 20s or 30s, but I have no definate date. Thanks.

I believe this has come up before, the best I can offer is:
Military Uniforms in Canada 1695-1970, Summers & Chartrand:
When the regiment became a part of Canada's Permanent Force, a full dress uniform was introduced, French-grey was selected as the facing colour to commemorate the regiments first entry into the line in January 1914 beside the French.
A white Wolseley helmet with brass spike and curb chain was worn with a French-grey puggree until 1927, when the regiment was ordered to revert to a white puggree, authority for adopting the French-grey puggree had not been obtained through proper channels.
After the Second World War a proper request for the restoration of the French-grey puggree was officially approved.
