I am researching and intending to reproduce a uniform of the 1st Sydney Volunteer Artillery circa 1871 and wondering if you would have a detailed illustration. Could you recommend a manufacturer who could reproduce this uniform? I have an original seal skin busby as worn by the Volunteers.

Thank you,

Rob

This illustration comes from my CD07 on the uniforms of colonial New South Wales.
It represents a Gunner from the 1850s/60s, a member of one of the batteries of the NSW Volunteer Artillery.
The collar had a star or a grenade stitched on, dependent on the period.
Hope this helps

Sean

My great grandfather was a First Lieutenant in the artillery, I have the original commission papers signed and sealed by the Earl of Belmore in 1871. I also have a photograph taken on that day with the troops in front of the old family home. If you would like a copy of the photo you could email robertsweet@bigpond.com
