Dress Regulations
Full Dress for Officers
Tunic – Scarlet cloth, blue cloth facings as for regular infantry regiments, with silver lace instead of gold, & silver plated buttons, regimental pattern.
Trousers – Blue cloth as for regulars, with silver lace instead of gold (1 1/8 inch width with crimson silk stripe in centre 1/8 inch wide).
Helmet – White, with white puggree, silver spike, chain & regimental badge, the latter mounted on red cloth.
Gloves – White doe-skin (At Balls, Levees, &c., white kid).
Pouch-belt – Silver lace, 2 inches wide, lined blue morocco leather.
Pouch – Blue cloth the colour of the facings, edged with ¾ inch silver lace. Device, regimental pattern in silver.
Sword-belt – Silver lace 1 ½ inch wide, slings ¾ inch, lined blue morocco.
Sword – Steel hilt & scabbard, except for Mounted Officers of Field Rank, who will wear brass.
Spurs – Same as Scabbard.
N.B. – Every officer of the Corps is expected to provide himself with a Full Dress Uniform of the above pattern. Those officers, however, who have the green cloth uniform may continue to wear it until November 1st, 1889. Plain clothes or undress uniform will not be allowed at levees or balls when ‘full dress’ is ordered.
Mess Dress for Officers
Scarlet cloth Jacket with blue facings & blue Waistcoat – As in regular infantry regiments, with silver lace, &c., in lieu of gold.
Trousers – Blue cloth with red piping.
N.B. – It is entirely optional for any officer to provide himself with Mess dress. Those who already have the green may continue to wear it till 1st November, 1889. At Mess dinners & other occasions, when Mess dress is ordered, officers not having it must appear in full dress; plain clothes will not be allowed.
Undress Uniform (for all parades & duties under arms).
Officers
Scarlet serge Patrol Jacket – As per regulation pattern for officers of regular infantry, but without outside pockets, with blue cloth collar & cuffs, edged with silver braid (braid on sleeves according to rank). Shoulder straps of blue cloth edged with white piping, & white piping down front & round bottom of jacket. C.V.R. in silver on shoulder straps below badges of rank. Buttons regimental pattern, silver plated.
N.C.O.s & Privates – Scarlet serge as above, but with thin white braid instead of silver lace & piping.
Chevrons for SSGTs & full Sgts, silver lace. All other N.C.Officers, white braid.
Trousers (all ranks) – Blue serge, red piping, as for regular infantry.
Helmet (all ranks) – As for officer’s full dress.
Sword-belt (officers) – Brown leather with silver mountings, rifle pattern, snake hook.
Sword – Steel hilt, rifle pattern, for all officers.
Scabbard – Steel, for all officers.
Pouch-belt – Brown leather with silver mountings & devices as at present. In lieu of pouch a brown leather binocular case (No.4 size).
Sgts will have a similar belt, but without centre device & with ordinary small Pouch.
Sgts’ Pouch belts will be worn over the right shoulder.
Gloves – White doe-skin. For Sgts, white cotton.
Forage Cap – Glengarry, regular pattern, with silver regimental bugle badge mounted on scarlet cloth.
Great Coat – Regular infantry pattern, with plated silver buttons.
For Mounted Officers
Boots – Regular pattern, black leather.
Spurs – Regular pattern, steel.
Pantaloons – Blue serge or cloth, scarlet piping.
For Range & Fatigue Duties
Plain Khaki drill as at present in use but without black piping, & with silver buttons. That now worn will, however, be continued till worn out.
Helmet – White as already detailed, with spike removed, and with Khaki drill cover; the chin strap to be hooked up under the cover.
The cover should never be removed except when the Helmet is required for Parade purposes.

Note from 1877
Calcutta Volunteer Rifles, 1877
The uniform has this year been altered as follows:
Helmet covered with green serge, same colour as coat.
Black puggree has replaced red.
Regimental badge for helmet adopted.
Braid & facings on the coat have been removed, and coat is now plain serge for all ranks.
