Danish Nazi Party DNSAP

The Danish Nazi party DNSAP.
Had up to twenty five ranks, 15 Sysseler’s [districts] within Denmark divided into Herred’s [hundreds] then Afdelingen’s [departments], although they would have been pushed to field a couple of battalions.
Cap badge [of which I’m unable to find a good quality picture of]was a Norse design with white swastika on a red circle with an outer white circle above which was the white cross of Denmark on a red oval with outer white oval, badge was silver or gold depending on rank/grade.
On the upper left arm was worn a red shield with white swastika of which the border had twelve variants depending on rank/grade.
Rank/grade was colour coded brown, green, silver and gold in ascending order.
Since political uniforms were banned in Denmark from 1933, the uniform wasn’t worn until the German occupation. The uniform was greenish brown tunic and trousers with green shirt and dark green tie. Peaked cap with cap band colour according to rank/grade.
Cap and band:
Afdelings-Skriver Fuldmaegtic: all brown including piping with silver badge.
Herreds-Skriver: all brown including piping and silver badge.
Herreds Fuldmaegtig Gruppenleder: brown with grass green band, piping and silver badge.
Herreds-Afdelingsleder Leder: brown with grey green band, piping and silver badge.
Syssel-Skriver Fuldmaegtig: brown with grass green band, silver piping and silver badge.
Syssel-Gruppenleder: brown with grey green band, silver piping and silver badge.
Syssel-Afdelingsleder: brown with grey green band, silver piping, gilt badge.
Syssel-leder: brown with grey green band, silver piping, gilt badge and oak leaves on peak.
Stabs Lands-Skriver: brown with grass green band, silver piping and silver badge.
Stabs Lands-Afdelingsleder: brown with grey green band, silver piping and silver badge.
Stabs Lands-Fuldmaegtic: brown with grey green band, silver piping and gilt badge.
Stabs Lands-Gruppenleder: brown with grey green band, silver piping and gilt badge.
Stabs Lands-Leder: brown with grey green band, gold piping and gilt badge.
Stabs Lands-Partifører: brown, grey green band,gold piping, gilt badge and gold oak leaves on peak.
Ranks were:
Afdeling [department].
Afdelings Skriver [clerk], Afdelings Fuldmaegtig [head or chief clerk], Afdelings Gruppenleder [group leader], Afdelings Leder [leader].
Herred [hundreds].
Herreds Skriver, Herreds Fuldmaegtig, Herreds Gruppenleder, Herreds Afdelingsleder, Herreds Leder.
Syslet [district].
Syssel Skriver, Syssel Fuldmaegtig, Syssel Gruppenleder, Syssel Afdelingsleder, Syssel Leder, Stabs Skriver, Stabs Fuldmaegtig, Stabs Gruppenleder.
Land [leadership].
Lands Skriver, Lands Fuldmaegtig, Lands Gruppenleder, Lands Afdelingsleder, Landsleder.
Topped off by the Party Leader.
The design of the shoulder strap was similar to the German NCO’s but with no bottom stripe and central strips from the button to the shoulder.
I believe the list to be correct.

Believe it or not the yellow mushy blur on the straps is suppost to be oak leaves, but it gives the general idea.

Here are some note on the youth section of the DNSAP. Information on the Danish National Socialists seems to be very thin on the ground.
The youth section like all good right wing groups of the time was sub-dived by age and gender.
The Skjoldunge for boys between 10 and 14
The Vaebnere for ages 15 to 18, later name changed to Hird.
The Danske Piger for the female section.
The youth section used black uniforms similar in style [for officers] to the German SA, with metal insignia.
NCO ranks:
Hirdmand – closed sun wheel on shoulder straps, with unit/Banne number on collar patch,
Folgefører – as above with one metal three pointed star on collar patch.
Hirddfører – closed sun wheel on shoulder straps,with two three pointed stars on collar patch.
Storhirdfører- closed sun wheel on shoulder straps, with three three pointed stars on collar patch.
Officers ranks:
Stammefører- closed sun wheel on shoulder straps, with one three pointed silver star on collar patch, the patch surrounded with silver piping.
Bannefører- as Stammefører but with two stars.
Storbannefører- as others but with three stars.
All ranks had a black brassard, edged in white top and bottom on which was a sun wheel.
This brassard was later changed to a black shield with white sunwheel, shield edged in white.
Officers wore a lanyard of white and Banne colour intwined.
Branches for actors, clergy, musicians, sports, teachers and writers with university students in the National Studenter Aktion.
I’m unable to cross reference some of this due to a general lack of information freely available on the organisation.
Unlike their neighbours in Germany there seems to be a lack of interest in this period of Danish history.
Although many are at pain to point out that the Danish surrendered without firing a shot [not true], this fails to put the Danish situation into perspective.
The Danes had a small army, taken by surprise, and no hope of success. Many Danes were later to fight the invaders with distinction.

I believe the Royal Lifeguard and the Royal Danish Army were able to put up some resistance to the Germans around Copenhagen.

The Norwegians however, performed much better and were actually able to delay the Germans on several occasions including giving the Germans a few nasty ambushes (ex. sinking the cruiser Blucher).

I think to simplify it, Norway had the hope of British aid and Denmark didn’t. Also the Germans caught the Danish government off guide due to the non intervention pact.
Funny looking back, Hitler managed to food so many supposedly intelligent people in various governments into believing his lies.
Although I’m in the minority believing that Churchill was far over rated as a great individual, although his arrogance and self worth made him a very good war leader.
I must admit he was a voice in the wilderness during the 30’s when warning Chamberlin and friends about Germany.
