Luftwaffe 1933-45

UP to 1936 the Luftwaffe had a system of stripes for the 24 grades of marksmanship. The grade stripes were worn on the left forearm to the Service Dress Tunic by other ranks and NCOs.  
The snipers chevron could be awarded to any grade of marksman.
It appears that to be a marksman in the pre 36 Luftwaffe you had to be a seamstress also.  The mind boggles at how much time would be wasted unpicking and re-sewing badges.
In 1936 the marksmanship Lanyard was introduced into the Luftwaffe and Army for NCOs and men.
This system had three grades of lanyard of different colours, subdivided into twelve levels of proficiency.  The twelve levels were distinguished by the use of 1 to 3 acorns or shells according to weapon, these acorns/shells were again colour coded silver or gilt for level achieved.
