Swedish light cavalry uniforms
OK....have some von Morners Swedish hussars I wish to paint, but I have three sources which give conflicting views on cuff color. All agree on the standard hussar uniform, blue, but one source says blue cuffs, another says red cuffs and yet another says yellow cuffs.
Anyone have anything to contribute on this question?
Thanks,
T.L.Barton

Re: Swedish light cavalry uniforms
Hi Terry. Does this help? Knotel plate of Morner Hussar Regiment 1813.
Swedish uniforms underwent frequent changes during the Napoleonic period. Then they settled down and remained fairly constant in colours, if not in styles, until the pre-1914 era. By then the Morner Hussars had vanished but the remaining four Hussar regiments had respectively white, light blue, yellow and dark blue facings.

Thanks
I had a feeling that good ole Richard Knotel would show up. Yellow it is.
Thanks again,
Terry

Knotel Schweden 1807.
An earlier dated illustration by Knotel, showing some differences to the later 1813 uniform.

Re: Swedish light cavalry uniforms
Yes those Swedes just kept changing their dress regulations every year or so apparently just for the novelty of it . Even one Swedish commentator complained that it made his army's uniform history during the Napoleonic period almost impossible to untangle. It probably didn't matter if you were a trooper in (say) the Morner Hussar Regiment and you got each new item of uniform as a free issue from the quartermaster. Different if you were a ill-paid junior officer who faced expensive tailor bills very time this happened.
