Imperial Korean Army 1895 to 1910

Inbetween subservience to China and Japan (1895 to 1910, or thereabouts), Korea had its own army.
This photo comes from a blog on the Korean Military Museum.
I have found little other information on their uniforms so if anyone can add please do.
They were Russian trained, and perhaps equipped?

You didn't get much of a response! I too have been searching for Korean armed forces information c1900. I have gathered a few photos of very poor quality which I will post in the hope of provoking a response of some kind. I am interested because the Koreans almost became involved militarily in the Boxer Uprising - the emperor offered troops but japan blocked it.

You say the Korean army was Russian trained? That's news to me - all the signs suggest the greated influence other than China was Japan -borne out by how 'Japanese' the modern Korean uniforms in your photo and the ones I've found are?

I'd like to get some organisational details too, but neither Korean embassy, National Library nor current armed forces seem able to help!

I agree that Japan was the dominant force in the area and heavily influenced the local armies. You need only look at the revamped Chinese army to see a Japanese style. But they were also feared for their expansionist policies. I think the Russians were always on the edge of things trying to get an 'in' for the area to take them to a warm water port in the east, hence Port Arthur. In the end it led to war between the two powers.
Korea, a battleground and sometime nation, was influenced by both sides and in the end pulled apart by both.
Still can't find much on them. There was a website on the American attack in the late 1800s but that's gone now. Another interesting bit of history.

Interesting uniform, a mix of western style and native practicality.
Officer with cuff rank insignia, and the bloke on the right a NCO with a small inverted chevron on the left shoulder?
Mauser rifles?

The caption says that Russian soldiers are training Koreans. The helmets have round knobs on top, not points.
