Guards of honour & ceremonial uniforms
Remember Cassin's book on ceremonial uniforms? Time we had a thread of the same because there is so much that is unusual out there. I would prefer modern, as in last twenty years, if you're adding to the information.

Of course I remember that Cassin-Scott book. I've had it for 33 years now.

Re: Guards of honour & ceremonial uniforms
Thanks for posting this splendid mix Sean.
The white and black fur hat with red/green hackle worn by what appears to be the band of the Kenyan Navy is an interesting survival. Back in the 1970s the bass drummer of the Kenya African Rifles band wore an identical headdress. It was then described as being made from "the skin of a Guereza - a beautiful kind of monkey found in Kenya". Bit tough on the guerezas though.

Here are some of the Jamaica Regiment (the infantry component of the Jamaica Defense Force). Jamaica remains a British Commonwealth realm with the Queen as head of state so the "Britishness" is not all that surprising.
Below are some pictures of the Royal Bahamas Defense Force. Despite the name, the RBDF is almost entirely a coast guard with a tiny air wing. All personnel are trained as infantry however in addition to their naval duties.
More later. Mainly British and British Commonwealth.

Thanks again for these Sean. While most modern ceremonial units in Africa seem to wear recently designed uniforms, the Sudanese Presidential Guard is an exception. Volume II of Rinaldo D'Ami's "World Uniforms in Colour" shows a guardsman in the dark blue cold weather dress and white turban shown in the last of your potographs. As D'Ami's books were first published in Italy in 1966, following two years of research, this particular uniform was probably adopted shortly after Sudan became independent in 1956

Very picturesque! I'm guessing that the costume worn by Genghis Khan's warriors was the inspiration.
