Re: The message for buistR
Hello Busel82. I am sorry that I missed your message - Christmas and all that.
I am not sure that I can be of too much help regarding the Latin American armies that you name. However:
(i) Guatemala: no colour plate in Enciuopedia Universal. However another contemporary (early 1920s) source does give the following sparse information:
"The colors of the uniforms of the army of Guatemala are dark blue for dress and olive drab for service. Dress Uniform : a cap of English model with black vizor and the national arms in front in gilt metal; a single-breasted tunic with standing collar and seven gilt or silver buttons; trousers or breeches with double arm of service stripes and black shoes or boots. The cavalry also have white cloth riding breeches, English style without stripe".
"Arm of service colours: infantry yellow, cavalry white, artillery red, engineers blue, general staff green, justice black. Members of the Medical Corps do not have a trouser stripe but wear a Red Cross brassard on the left arm".
Additional information is given on insignia of rank and the olive drab service uniform.
(ii) Honduras: again no Enciuopedia Universal plate, only a photo showing artillerymen in white uniforms and kepis. "The full dress uniform of the army of Honduras is dark blue and comprises a cap of Prussian model, a double-breasted tunic with two rows of seven buttons each and having a standing collar of the same color as the coat; and trousers with arm of service stripe. The artillery and engineers have dark red trouser stripe, the other branches of the service marine blue. The service uniform is of olive green khaki with a coffee-coloured sombrero. White uniforms are worn in summer. The sword for both officers and men is of the machete type". Additional information is given on rank insignia.
(iii)Peru: here an Enciuopedia Universal plate does exist. I will post it on the South American section of this website in the next day or so - under a separate heading since it may be of interest to other members.
(iv) Ecuador: I have a photocopy of an Enciuopedia Universal plate here but unfortunately only in black and white with my hand written annotations. It probably would not post clearly on the website but I am happy to try if anyone is interested.
