Belgian trial uniform
Picked up these illustrations of a trial uniform for the Belgian Army just prior to the Great War.

Re: Belgian trial uniform
Looks like some shade of light blue or grey, or some mixture thereof. It definitely would've been more practical in the field than the uniforms they met the German invasion in.
Likewise, the French had adopted a uniform in a tricolouer red/white/blue weave just days before the outbreak of war. Ironically, the red dye that would've been used, and the same dye that had been used for the line infantry's trousers, came from Germany, and when the war broke out, the French were reduced to seizing stocks from the French subsidiary of a German company. Eventually though, the cloth that did go into service was reduced to white and blue, and thus bleu horizon was born.
