The image on the left is possible a misprint, and Italian, the image on the right shows the standard German armour.

It certainly looks Italian, and a misprint.
The armour minus the lower plates of the standard German armour, the helmet’s also more Italian.
Although the chain-male hides the collar, the grenade also doesn't look German, more French, of which I believe the Italians had license to produce.
When I read the text, it fit the illustration, and with McNabs’ reputation I just put down to maybe McNab having a reference for an alternative to the standard armour.

My mistake, I leave it here, but I’ve added a note and additional image that shows the standard German armour to compare the two.

I haven’t seen, and don’t know of this particular illustration in any other book, do you?
