Chilian Navy Capt 1890
Here’s an attempt at drawing a Capt of the Chilian navy circa 1890, taken from Sean’s link to the NYPL digital collection.
Couldn’t repeat possibly repeat the quality of the originals.

Vinkhuizen
Sean,
Thanks, if you could see how long it takes to do them, believe me, there’s no competition from this corner.
This ‘Vinkhuizen’ [they aren’t even sure of the spelling] guy seems to have been a little bit of a pirate, raiding books and collections, destroying many in to process.
I was wondering about copyright, but I can’t for the life of me see how a collection that’s well over a hundred years old, gained in some cases by dubious means, with little knowledge of the original artists could have copyright.
Do you think this is why the NYPL are willing to make them public, or are they just very public spirited?
Shame a lot of the insignia charts are of poor quality.
Regards
WF

Chilean navy chart
Chris
I’ve the chart for officers from the Vinkhuizen collection,
This shows backing colours of:
Red – Medical [Surgeon].
White – Accountants.
L/Blue – Engineer’s.
Any further info would be much appreciated.
