Yesterday I happened upon this interesting bit of information about U.S. Lend Lease uniforms and gear sent to Latin America during the Second World War. I put this in the Central America section because though it deals with not just Central- but South America and the Caribbean, from what I've seen of Latin American armies of that period the ones whose uniforms appear to have been U.S.-influenced already anyway were, except Mexico, the Central American (and Caribbean) armies, many of whom look like they were wearing surplus U.S. Army or Marine uniforms in the 1930s. Anyway the webpage is at
http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/ref/LL-Ship/LL-Ship-4.html

Lend Lease uniforms & gear that made its way to Latin America Empty Interesting - so that's where the helmets went

Post  mconrad Sun 27 Jun 2010, 7:37 am

So they shipped over 20,000 old World War One helmets south - so that's what happened to them when the new WWII helmet was introduced ; )

Why did Mexico get exactly 292? Is that what fit in the box? Funny, a lot of the Mexican lot quantities were between 280 and 290, maybe enough to oufit a couple of companies.
