Darwin Mobile Force

In the late 1930s, like the rest of the world, Australia was worried about an approaching conflict. But the constitution did not allow for permanent military forces apart from trainers, technicians and artillerymen.
To provide some form of defence for the north the Darwin Mobile Force was raised as part of the Royal Australian Artillery.
Below is an organisational chart showing the DMF as essentially an infantry unit.
They wore tropical uniforms with artillery badges and distinctions, as shown at the bottom of the page..

Note the rainproof cloak worn on the back of the parade uniform, and the plain Permanent Forces hatband (only the militia wore pleated puggarees).
The red band, and red and blue flashes, are the distinctions of the artillery.
As an artillery unit 1903 bandoliers were worn, instead of the more practical 08/15 webbing.
