Uniform Tourists in Egypt through the times
Hi Guys,
Couldn't resist showing these found on the Corbis website, showing that no matter where the British Army go to fight they always end up doing the 'Tourist Thing' of having a photo taken with a well known local landmark.
Here we have the same landmark , the SPHINX, over a 40 year period but ending up with a similar view.

The 'Black Watch' in 1882 , probably before Tel-El-Kebir as they seem quite cheerful.

The British Army, not sure which regiment, around 1922, still cheerful.
Regards,
Les

Same location;
1864.
Japanese Embassy Staff enjoy a day out sight seeing in Egypt while en route to Rome to open their First European Embassy, not as clear a photo as the others so two versions are posted.

The 'A. Beato' that signed the photo was an Italian photographer who lived in Japan amd accompanied the Japanese Ambassador all the way to Rome. I expect he was their offical photographer.
Best Regards,
Les
